Fun in the snow for all the family

The Lötschental valley is one of the Alpine valleys in Switzerland you can really rely on to have snow. Sunny Lauchernalp is set against a stunning backdrop of 40 four-thousanders. At a height of up to 3111 m above sea level, you can find well-kept trails covering 33 kilometres, an exceptional freeride area, 50 kilometres of signposted winter walking routes and a snowshoe trail – everything you could possibly be looking for as a winter sports enthusiast. The skiing area is suitable for the whole family as there are pistes of all difficulties, ranging from blue to black. The Cool School offers a range of snow sports courses for all abilities as well as childcare services for the littlest of visitors. After a long day out on the slopes, there are plenty of cosy guest houses in the local villages that have just the thing for tired legs and hungry tummies.

Top Alpine tips

Lauchernalp is a popular choice amongst ski mountaineers. If you head towards Petersgrat or Gitzifurka, there is plenty of choice for off-piste skiers too. Plus, there is a 35 kilometre cross-country ski trail that snakes its way through the entire Lötschental valley up to Fafleralp. A range of sledding trails dotted throughout the glorious winter wonderland can make your time in the local area even more fun. Other highlights include the weekly night-time ski run and the cross-country ski tour under a full moon.
